I’m dedicating this writing to the fellow Sabi yang masih bingung on how to elevate your style. But before we dive into the topics, let me ask you: pernah nggak sih lihat konten di Tiktok atau reels Instagram tentang “how to find your aesthetic?”. Konten old money look, whimsy-maxxing, chic girl essentials, clean girl aesthetic, no make-up make up look, and so many more.
Rasanya nih, zaman sekarang untuk pergi ke luar rumah aja harus ada style yang kita ikuti biar bisa fit in sama orang-orang. Apalagi kalau bahas tentang gimana our Instagram account shifting from something to express ourselves to some curated version of ourselves. It’s like people stopped sharing their lives because they have the urge to be cool all the time. Like, if your account is not aesthetic enough or mysterious enough, people will call you boring or even lame.
Kadang rasanya kita nih dituntut untuk bisa keeping up with new trends agar terus dilihat relevan dan keren sama orang lain. Jadi, sebenarnya, kita harus apa, ya, biar bisa jadi The It Girl without forgetting ourselves in the process?
First, you need to know you.
Being a cool person does not mean you have to post some random buildings yang tone-nya gelap dan pakai captions yang catchy all the time. Sometimes, you just need to feel yourself and post things when you feel like it. Post those pics of you laughing hard at your friend’s jokes, post the videos of you having fun, post the blurry pictures you took on vacation, post the people you love, post all the things you like so your account shows a life you live. There’s no restrictions on what you can and you cannot post. Your aesthetic is you being yourself.
Next, you don’t hop on trends, you sip them.
Kalau muncul tren-tren baru tentang style yang lagi in, you don’t have to take it all in. Lihat dulu, sebenarnya kamu suka nggak sih sama tren itu? Atau kamu cuma FOMO aja karena semua orang seems to really love it? Makanya, you need to know yourself first so you can build your own style without feeling left out karena gak terus-terusan ngikutin tren yang lagi viral.
Then, don’t limit yourself.
Kalau ada satu style yang kamu suka, you don’t have to stay on that line forever. Try new things and know that you can experience anything you want. A trend is basically a form of self expression. If you like something, you try it. And if you don’t, then you just have to slowly walk away. You can always choose what you want and what you don’t. It’s your life, don’t let anyone else dictate it for you!
Apalagi sebagai seorang perempuan, rasanya udah terlalu lama kita didikte tentang apa yang boleh dan apa yang nggak boleh kita lakuin. It’s about time we throw all the stereotypes and beauty standards out of the window and start living solely for ourselves.
So, with that, I can assure that you will be the ultimate it girl. Because the coolest thing a person can do is knowing themselves. You don’t have to limit yourself to one aesthetic. You don’t have to become aesthetic. You don’t need to like niche things. You don’t have to be whimsy. You certainly don’t have to act cool all the time. What you have to do is to be authentically you, because the ultimate form of being cool is being yourself!
