Jatinangor, 29 Juni 2026 – Let’s face it: being a university student in 2026 is exhausting. Between intense academic demands, the constant noise of digital disruption, and the lingering anxiety of “what comes next?”, today’s youth aren’t just navigating a career path—they are trying to survive a tidal wave of uncertainty.
Recognizing this, AIESEC in Unpad recently wrapped up its two-month intensive leadership incubator, AIESEC Future Leaders (AFL) Summer Peak 2026. From April 18 to June 13, 84 student delegates gathered at the Universitas Padjadjaran Jatinangor campus for an experience that felt less like a traditional lecture series and more like a collective journey toward resilience.
The theme? A highly relatable metaphor for our times: “Taming The Wave.”
Moving Beyond the “Boss” Stereotype
The core philosophy of this summer’s program was simple: you cannot stop the waves of uncertainty, self-doubt, or conflict from crashing into your life. What you can do, however, is learn how to surf them.
AFL completely flipped the script on traditional corporate hierarchy. Over eight weeks, the curriculum dismantled the idea that leadership requires a title or a podium, replacing it with tangible, modern survival skills divided into four progressive tracks:
Riding the Swell: Before you can lead others, you have to understand yourself. Led by Bening Putri Nabilla, the opening track focused heavily on self-awareness as the foundation of personal impact.
Navigating Cross-Currents: In collaboration with Nestlé, Dimas Sukma Batara pushed delegates into the world of intercultural communication—proving that empathy is a non-negotiable leadership skill in a globalized society.
Mastering the Digital Crest: Partnering with Generation Girl, Muzdalifah Yully Ayu and Najma Noorfitri Syarifah equipped delegates with the digital tools needed to manage complex projects effectively.
The Breaking Point: Led by Anindita Arci Achedya and Ratih W. Gatari, this final track focused on strategic pitching and communication.
From Jatinangor to UN Headquarters: Real-World Exposure
AFL didn’t just stay confined to classroom walls. To show delegates what leadership looks like in practice, the program took them on high-exposure corporate and institutional visits in Jakarta.
Delegates got an inside look at fast-paced tech operations at RedDoorz, followed by a deep dive into global impact via institutional visits to UNESCO, UNIC, and UNGP.
The program reached its peak with a project-based Special Track Activity. Delegates were tasked with creating and pitching concrete solutions to real-world Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) before an expert panel of judges, Sherly Mediana and Shabrina Yasmin. It wasn’t just an exercise; it was a high-stakes proof of concept.
Behind the Scenes: Growth and Vulnerability
What truly sets AFL apart from typical “cookie-cutter” leadership seminars is the community culture built behind the scenes.
“AFL was honestly one of the most memorable parts of my first year at Unpad,” shares Nadhira Adya Arsangganis, a student delegate. “I learned that leadership isn’t always about being a chairperson or leading from the front; it’s about taking initiative, contributing to a team, and bringing positive impact to those around us.”
For the organizers, the experience was equally transformative. Jennifer Aurelia Makmun, the Team Leader of Program Management, reflected on the immense effort behind the scenes:
“Behind every session, speaker, and collaboration, I learned that creating a meaningful learning experience requires careful planning, adaptability, and genuine passion. AFL became a place where I truly experienced what growing together means.”
